Despite colossal losses down the road, we’ve got a huge deal of literary works surviving from the ancient period: epic poems, lyrical poetry, satires, epigrams, fables, philosophical tracts and treatises, scientific works, even a novel (Petronius’ Satyricon), and even a cookbook (Apicius’ De Re Coquinaria).
